I spoke First: How Purpose Led Me to Build Community - Norine C. Fahie | Author, Non-Profit Leader, Podcast Host | Published by FirstGen Collective | FirstGen Stories

I didn’t start this journey with a platform, a plan, or a blueprint. I started it with lived experience, humility, and a deep understanding of what it feels like to carry more than your fair share and still keep it moving. My beginnings were humble. I come from a family where stories were currency, connection, and survival. My father was a storyteller in the truest sense. He could take everyday moments and turn them into lessons, humor, and wisdom. Long before I understood the power of storytelling, I watched him use his voice to bring people together. He was always so animated…using his entire body to tell the story. I loved every minute of it, and that stayed with me.

For a long time, I didn’t believe my own story deserved space. Like many women, I learned how to show up for others before showing up for myself. I learned how to be strong, capable, and quiet at the same time. Healing eventually challenged that pattern. It asked me to be honest, not just with others, but with myself.

The real shift came when I gave myself permission to share my own story first. Not perfectly. Not polished. Just honestly. I realized that when I showed up as myself, without pretending I had everything figured out, other women felt safer doing the same. Setting that example was important to me. Vulnerability became an invitation. My story wasn’t meant to stand alone. It was meant to open the door.

That understanding is what led to the creation of Save Our Sisters. It was never meant to be a brand or a moment. I created it to help women feel like they are not alone in their life struggles. It is a space rooted in sisterhood, healing, and truth. A place where women can exhale, be seen, and know that their experiences matter. Community isn’t built through perfection or performance. It’s built through presence, consistency, and care. Over time, conversations turned into connections, and connections turned into community.

Save Our Sisters Unplugged grew from that same foundation. The podcast was created to amplify women’s voices and create space for real, honest conversations. These stories are not curated for comfort. They are shared for impact. Each conversation carries truth, and each truth creates room for another woman to feel seen, understood, and less alone.

Storytelling has always been the thread that ties everything together for me. It’s how we heal. It’s how we connect. It’s how we remember that survival is not the end of the story.

That same truth led me to write The Bonds of Sisterhood: A Guide to Building Your Tribe. The book is an extension of the work I’ve been doing through community and conversation. It is a guide, but it is also a reflection. It speaks to the importance of intentional sisterhood, building your tribe, and understanding that healing does not happen in isolation. I wrote it for women who are redefining themselves, rebuilding after loss, or simply searching for connection in a season of transition.

Everything I’ve created is rooted in one core belief: our experiences are not liabilities. They are bridges. When we choose to share our stories, we create representation where it may have been missing. We show other women what is possible, not because we are perfect, but because we are present.

Today, I move with purpose, not urgency. With intention, not pressure. I continue to build community from a place of authenticity, knowing the work will evolve, but the mission remains the same. To remind women they are not alone in their life struggles. To amplify voices that deserve to be heard. And to honor the power of storytelling to turn lived experience into representation.

As I always say, one woman’s story can unlock another woman’s prison. This journey has taught me that when one woman is willing to speak first, others find the courage to follow.
